Parent Support
Waratah Adult Service and Kids and Teens Service are working together to provide parent support and parent information sessions for parents and carers of children who access the Kids and Teens Service. This would assist parents in understanding how trauma can affect children and how to assist their children with challenging behaviours. All parents will be given information about parent support at the initial parent interview.
Sexual Assault Abuse Education Programme
Waratah Support Centre is committed to a prevention / proactive model of service delivery. Research indicates that education and raising awareness about sexual assault in young people is necessary to help reduce the prevalence of sexual violence in our society. Waratah’s Sexual Assault Service provides these education talks to schools in the Southwest from Harvey through to Northcliffe.
The presentations have been devised as part of the K-10 syllabus and ideally should be attended by students around the same time period that sexuality issues are being discussed. The presentation includes information on the incidence and prevalence of sexual assault /abuse, legal issues such as age of consent, sexual assault within the context of dating or in relationships, sexual assault in relation to party environments, drink spiking, sexual harassment within the workplace, consequences of sexual assault and how to seek support following sexual assault.
