Our Projects

Waratah Support Centre SW Region Incorporated (Waratah) received a grant of $5000 from Community Arts Network WA to run a series of workshops for women who are victims of sexual abuse / sexual assault and or domestic violence.

The HERSTORY project was designed to give fifteen women an opportunity to go through the healing process whilst being emotionally supported and understood by other survivors rather than feeling alone and isolated, as they seek to comprehend the trauma they have experienced, and express their thoughts and feelings freely through art and/or recording their experiences in their own words.

The process of the workshops aimed to assist participants gain a sense of belonging, a deeper understanding of themselves, improve relationships with others, reduce isolation, reduce anxiety and depression symptoms and create a sense of hope. These outcomes and opportunities of the workshops were measured by participant feedback.

The writing and illustrating of the books have had a tremendous therapeutic effect for the participants who met recently at the book launch.

The HERSTORY project is one of many projects Waratah provides to meet the therapeutic needs of victims in the South West Region.
